About The Book
The Professional Humanitarian
speaks to the core of all human services professionals - from teacher’s assistants, to police officers, to nurses, and so on. Individuals that choose this profession encounter unique challenges that prepare them for challenges outside of work. Interpersonal relationships are complicated and successfully managing yourself in challenging environments prepares a person to do so in all areas of their life.
One of the biggest challenges that healthcare organizations face is maintaining competent personnel consistently. This book very clearly defines challenging behavior as well as methods of intervention that will support the individual remaining calm, focused, and motivated to keep improving.
The Professional Humanitarian Project cultivates a more prepared human services professional by prioritizing the influence the professional’s behavior has on the environment. The book is written to be simple but contemporary and is delivered in 7 principles. While the project was written for the human services professional, the principles can be taken anywhere regular interactions with others exist. I believe these principles to be so accessible I explained the ideas to my children and had them draw the diagrams. We even created one! (see the picture below)
The methods shared in the book have been drawn from a diversified human services experience that has provided direct care for individuals along the entire continuum.
